Founder of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensah Otabil has revealed that, as a young man, his ambition was to become a heavyweight boxer.
He hinted that he fancied the sport, growing up, but retreated and turned to the pulpit after receiving some heavy punches at the early stages.
“I fancied boxing, while growing up. I wanted to become a heavyweight boxer, but after a few knock outs, I decided to become a pastor.
“Azumah’s life challenged me and many Ghanaians. Most unusual of him is going to his opponent’s territory and beating them,” Otabil said.
The Central Gospel senior pastor was among the high profile dignitaries like President Rawlings, Kennedy Agyapong, (Kenpong), Dr Sam Jonah who graced the launch of Azumah Nelson’s news book.
He prayed for the boxing professor and his family for God’s protection after putting smiles on the faces of Ghanaians in his decade-long reign as a world champion.
Pastor Otabil’s concern about healthy living has led to the annual ‘Life Walk’ exercise, a campaign to drum home the importance of healthy living.
